About Us
Sharley Park Girls Gymnastics Club has been in existence for over 20 years
and entered club competitions way back in 1986 when, in the same year,
became members of the Derbyshire and the East Midlands Gymnastics
Association.
Due to the immediate success at County and Regional levels the club soon
grew to a 30 strong team reaching its first national grades finalist in
1997 and then again in 1998 when 2 gymnasts qualified to go on to the
elite side of gymnastics.
Gymnasts attending lessons held by the leisure centres work towards
attaining a successful place within the club, once completing their
probationary period will be placed on the clubs performance programme. It
is on this programme that they have the opportunity to work towards
county, regional and national levels.
There is a clear programme of talent identification to ensure a smooth
progress from foundation to performance levels with individual coaches
developing skills in all areas of assessment. All coaches have the
opportunity to develop and extend their knowledge and skills base by
attending courses and seminars.
The club is run purely by dedicated fund raisers and volunteers
undertaking the unenviable task of teaching the sport of gymnastics.
